Community safety

Our community is a wonderful place, but it can only stay that way if residents feel safe. All levels of government have to work together to address issues of local crime so residents feel safe in their homes and on the streets, and so local business owners are confident. We also have to stay united as a community, and with a large Jewish community we have to ensure we remain vigilant against antisemitism. I’ll always work for community safety to make Goldstein a better place to live, work and play.

Delivering environmental outcomes

Our community is blessed with a wonderful natural environment in a beautiful country, and it’s important to keep it that way. While there are big global environmental challenges, the best place to start is at home on what we can control, which is why I’ve always supported local anti-littering initiatives to investments in soil erosion. And at a national level I’ve passed laws to establish a whole new renewable energy industry to cut emissions and grow the economy, because environmental stewardship requires leadership.

Delivering community upgrades

Our community has some of the best natural assets in Melbourne, but as established suburbs many of our community facilities were built many years ago. In some cases sports grounds lack the facilities and change rooms to support women’s inclusion, as well as support an ageing population. While we’ve already secured record funding to upgrade some facilities, there’s more work to be done. I’ll always work to secure more Federal funding to ensure we get the best deal for Goldstein.

Boosting home ownership

It’s important the next generation of residents are able to live a better life than those that came before. When young Australians say they don’t think they’ll ever be able to afford their own home it is like a part of our nation’s soil is fading. And it doesn’t need to be true. Home ownership is a pillar of security in working life and retirement, and it is part of the Australian promise, and I’ll always work to ensure it continues to be.

Backing small business

Small business reflects the best of the Australian spirit where people chance their hand, back themselves and create opportunity. The job of government is to back them in and grow. We are a small business community whether it is shops, side hustles or sweat equity, and often while working for a salary too. Big corporates can take care of themselves, it’s the energy and innovation of small business that needs to be harnessed. I’ll always work to support policies that back those who back themselves and build the next chapter of the Australian economy.

Lowering financial stress

Keeping a firm hand on the nation’s books and backing policies that grow the economy is essential for a county that can support Australia today, and future generations. Government has a job to do, but it must live within its means and not pass on debt to future generations for the costs of today. Currently government expenditure is too high, and we are borrowing from tomorrow. This driving inflation and keeping interest rates higher than they need be, and putting pressure on families and small businesses when they need it least. I’ll always work to ensure taxpayers get the best value from Canberra.
