“Australia’s startup sector is calling out the Albanese government’s family tax agenda and warning it will lead to founder flight” said Shadow Treasurer, Tim Wilson.

“Anyone who thinks that Labor’s family savings tax agenda is just targeted at investment properties doesn’t understand how wide-ranging their new taxes will hit – young and old”, said Mr Wilson.

“Founders of serious funds are now warning about founder flight that will leave Australia because the tax system is too punitive”, said Mr Wilson.

Co-founder at Square Peg, Paul Bassat, has written on LinkedIn:

“If the government abolishes the “discount” on capital gains and replaces it with indexation and don’t carve out startup founders and employees they will set back the startup ecosystem in Australia by a decade or more. Founders will leave Australia in big numbers”.

Founder of Wilson Asset Management, Geoff Wilson, has highlighted the Albanese government’s family savings tax agenda on LinkedIn arguing:

“This isn’t reform. It’s theft from every aspirational Australian under 40 trying to get ahead. Double taxation on long term investments!”

“Jim Chalmers didn’t understand inflation, and he certainly doesn’t understand the consequences of his family savings tax agenda – and the people who have to live with the consequences are calling him out”, Mr Wilson said.
