An elected Liberal Government will contribute $2 million towards delivering a much-needed park for Porter Road, Bentleigh.

Liberal candidate for Goldstein, Tim Wilson, has secured this commitment to ensure residents have an adequate park right in their backyard.

The Porter Road Open Space Project will transform Bentleigh by creating a vibrant, accessible park that fosters community connection, supports recreational activities for all ages, and enhances local quality of life.

Supported by Glen Eira City Council and local residents, this project aims to provide a welcoming, sustainable environment that promotes healthy living and community engagement while preserving the natural landscape.

“The City of Glen Eira unfortunately has one of the lowest open spaces per population in Australia. It’s time we deliver a park for local families in this part of Bentleigh where it is very much needed. Let’s get it done so we can keep Glen Eira a wonderful place to live, work and play,” Mr Wilson said.

Mayor of Glen Eira City Council Cr Simone Zmood said "Council has already stepped up – we’ve secured the land and invested $5.8 million in the purchase and design. We now need support to bring the park to life.

“We know how important more green space is to the Bentleigh community and this park will enhance quality of life for residents of all ages."

Shadow Minister for the Environment, Senator Jonathon Duniam, highlighted the importance of this announcement.

“Glen Eira deserves green spaces as much as any community does, but we know that public areas for families and kids to relax are lacking.

“This significant announcement that Tim has ferociously advocated for will make this area even more liveable for the whole community,” said Senator Duniam.

This commitment is part of the Liberals’ plan to strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track.
